December 1 marked the culmination of 2 years of hard work for the Hibe team. With their official launch into the marketplace, the “real life” social network is now open to anyone interested in joining.
Hibe is a next generation social network that allows it’s users to mimic their offline behaviour in an online context. On the hibe.com site, you’re able to create different profiles for each of your social contexts: friends, family, co-workers. In each context, you decide how the people you know see you and share with you. You are also in full control of who has access to all your posts and comments. Unlike most other social networks, your data is never shared, directly or indirectly, for advertising purposes.
Hibe currently has 2500+ users, acquired through invitation-only sign up over the last 2 years.
According to Mr. Jean Dobey, CEO, the next big step for Hibe will be the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference next year in Austin, Texas. SXSW has been a launchpad for several startups in the past, and the future looks hopeful for this Montreal startup.
Congrats to the entire Hibe.com team. They’ve been incubating this project for a very long time, and it’s good to see them finally reach this milestone. Persistence pays!
