TagMyDoc, a stealth project that has been under development since January this year, is launching today, and it’s a fast, simple, and fun way to distribute documents to your co-workers and partners.

Their homepage features an invitation to upload straight away a word, ppt, pdf or image document, and they will then seamlessly add a QR code at the bottom right of the document. The process takes a couple of minutes, and is compatible with the majority of work documents.

The QR code has been strong, used and re-used by various advertisers, perhaps sometimes with not much thought. Here though, it adds real value. Picture yourself in a presentation full of co-workers and potential customers who would always ask at the end if they can get a copy of the presentation. Here, there’s no need to collect emails, attendees can just scan the QR code on screen. There are no required app downloads, or no registration required for the users. It’s the same for events, shows, conferences, meetings where you have new people who don’t have your email. Of course, the beauty of the service is that it takes away the chore of having to type everyone’s email, attaching a doc, and whatever follow-up you have to do everytime for a presentation.

Underneath TagMyDoc is a proprietary technology that knows .doc .ppt document structure, as well as PDF, key to this venture. Through third-party plugins, it might be easy to print or insert a QR code in a word doc, but you always end messing the layout. TagMyDoc also nails the user experience, by going the Dropbox approach where you can use the service right away from the frontpage. Try it out for yourself. You can even ask a friend or a nearby coworker to scan the QR code on their phone, and see their reaction when they get the document.
