For newcomers, entrepreneurs from other countries, or even companies looking to come in Montreal, there’s a new site showing the different Montreal neighborhoods, called aptly Montreal StartupTour .
The showcased videos were shot and produced by Felipe Coimbra, from 63squares (and mtlnewtech), and goes through St-Laurent, the Mile-End, the Plateau, downtown, the old port, as well as other locations such as the Olympic Park or Westmount.
What’s interesting for the technology community is that each time, an entrepreneur, or a well-known member of the community guides the tour, for instance by showing good spots, or simply showing the Montréal way of life. Here, Daniel Drouet from ajah, fundraising tool for non-profits, goes through the Plateau, plus there’s also a peak of Ajah’s offices.
For Montréalers, there’s nothing really new… unless you’ve been coding in your basement since you’ve arrived in Montreal :) It’s interesting though if you’re inviting potential job applicants, a co-founder from NYC or Toronto, or perhaps if you know an European trying to see if Montréal is a good place for technology companies: just forward them the link, and they’ll have quite a good impression of the city in 5 minutes. All the faces are friendly, and since it was shot during late summer, it’s all sunny, with no traces of snow or the goddamn salt anywhere.
It would be interesting to see more material like that, with recent videos for instance, or perhaps a video of what’s Montréal like during the winter, or the new established Notman House. Things go fast in Montréal, and shown as what’s being done elsewhere, we need to move aggressively.

Thanks for the post Heri. Yeah, I’m thinking about doing a Winter edition when I get back. And maybe to a quick revision with the people in these videos to see where they’re at and some new ones… I’m going to think about it.
If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
