When you get an exciting idea, one of the immediate next steps is looking for partners. It’s true for all entrepreneurs, and a capital need for technology ventures, given the advanced and unique skills that first founders need to be experts in: technology, business, marketing, design. Hackers need business cofounders to fine-tune business plans and guarantee funding, while entrepreneurs need technology cofounders or product specialists to make sure the product will be built and the vision will become reality.
Recently, it’s all apparently about speed dating

Entrepreneurs were invited last thursday at Notman House for a speed dating event, organized by Mikael Cho’s hackers and founders. Tables were arranged in a line, and entrepreneurs had 3 minutes sessions to introduce themselves and the project they were working in.

Yesterday, Felipe Coimbra from MtlNewTech organized CoFounders. It’s the same concept, but with better organization and perhaps more people. Each session lasts 5 minutes, and after that session, you’d go to the next numbered table.

Attendees are a mix of tech heads and entrepreneurs. There were also company founders who did not consider themselves as “startups”, but wanted to use the opportunity to find potential partners for an already running business.
As you can see in the picture, files were distributed to attendees. It’s a handy tool to help them remember the people.

Felipe used a special tibetan drum to notify attendees that time was up. Speed dating is fun!

Speed dating is an efficient way to make lots of connections, as opposed to networking events such as Montréal NewTech where you can stick with the same person for hours. Here, you get to meet everyone without exception, and there is no akward moment when you ask for bio information to attendees, since that’s why they came to the event.
Check out those events if you are looking for partners!
