Montreal Tech Watch

There is a lot of excitement for the Notman Hackademy, a project which aims to bring peer learning to the Notman House. You can see here a list of topics that people want to teach and learn, varying from basics (Accounting for noobs) or advanced topics such as machine learning or Internet security.

The peer learning concept is based on the principle, that as passionate developers and hungry entrepreneurs, we each learn and do new things everyday, with a dedication rare in the academic or corporate world. So why not share it as a group, and learn from each other to get our projects forward?

As you might have guessed, it’s a community project, done for the community by the community, and it’s up to each one of us to think what this new Hackademy will be like. There are many formats available, from the pure wiki-style peer learning (see pictures above). We can also think about more formal sessions, similar to what’s found in the academy world, where a member would go forward and suggest literature, “homework” to do, with teaching planned in several sessions. I am sure there are many other formats that we can discuss, which is the objective of the upcoming meetup.

Tomorrow’s meetup at 8AM at Notman House will gather everyone interested into the Hackademy project. If we have time, we can also discuss what are the next sesssions.

For those who haven’t been there yet, Notman House is at 51 Sherbrooke West. Be there on time, we want to make the meetup last only 1 hour, since many are working later in the day.
