Montreal Tech Watch

Felipe Coimbra (@twtfelipe) from 63Squares unveiled publicly a new twitter service last tuesday. In front of a packed audience at montreal new tech, he demoed 14blocks, a tool that will find out for you the best time to publish a tweet, plus also an offer to schedule a message.

After registration, 14Blocks will track your twitter stream, and with the saved data, will be able to pinpoint the times with the highest traffic, the assumption that the more users we see online, the more chances that your tweet will be visible.

Felipe says he had the idea when developing other products, and had to solve the problem of when to tweet for maximum visibility. Indeed, you want to get the word out, but you don’t want either to spam your followers every 30mns with the same message. Tweeting at the ideal time gives your message relevancy.

14Blocks is a freemium service, with a simple free plan available for those who want to try out or with basic needs, and with more elaborate / payable plans. It’s indeed an interesting tool for community managers and marketers using actively twitter to promote campaigns and new services. If you can track clicks through bit.ly and then sales from another stats service, then it’s easy to calculate ROI for 14blocks. Freelancers and entrepreneurs should be especially interested in using the service, as I expect larger companies to look instead for an integrated marketing tool.

63Squares’s strategy of building on top of a platform is not new. We’ve seen the popular twtvite, twtpoll, as well many others such as the new 4sqmobs. 14Blocks can certainly carve a niche, but it’s not alone! VC-funded flowtown offers the same service through Timely, and there are certainly other startups looking to develop similar tools for Twitter.
