Montreal featured at #LeWeb

By Heri Dec 9th 2010 in Business, Events

This week’s startup event is LeWeb, currently underway in Paris, France.

The event features an impressive lineup, and is one of Europe’s biggest startups conference, gathering european angels, VCs, entrepreneurs and of course the startup ecosystem such as bloggers, media, star developers etc. It’s an excellent opportunity for Montréalers who wish to go international, with a warm welcome from Europeans, since Montréal is often seen as the bridge to North America.

Noticeable roundtables yesterday included discussions about wikileaks, and the steps taken by various Internet giants to neutralize its online tools. The crowd booed Paypal’s VP, who followed the US State Department. In a conference which represents the future of the web, wikileaks is seen as the modern Robin Hood, and the general opinion is that transparency needs to win against secrecy, not far away from the wikipedia and other crowdsourcing revolutions. Who knows, maybe we will have crowdsourced governments soon…

We’ve also got lots of Montréalers officially covering the event. Follow Laurent Masonneuve (@zelaurent), Benoît Descary (@bdescary) and Claude Malaison (@emergence007) for up to date and live #LeWeb coverage.

Plus, featured Montreal startup at LeWeb is PraizedMedia with its product Needium. Follow @afroginthevalley and @sebprovencher, co-founders of Praized, also in Paris now. Sylvain Carle was on stage yesterday, and here’s the video:

Alistair Croll (@acroll, bitcurrent, rednod, yearone labs), an expert on web analytics and marketing, is also presenting at #LeWeb. Here are his slides

Startups solve problems. So if you find a problem there’s probably a startup idea lying somewhere nearby. A Montreal developer Kenji Williams developed an app called twtspire.com that scours twitter and automatically detects tweets from people that wonder why a solution doesn’t exist for a specific problem they’re having. Here are example of tweets from [...]
