Next week, Jean-François Kitchiguine is organizing an Augmented Reality meetup at Station-C, with technical and as well as design discussions.

Augmented Reality is the technic of adding digital information on a live display, like ads superimposed in live football games, or the huds display in fighter jets cockpits. More recently, augmented reality gained visibility with the launch of powerful mobile devices, with integrated gyroscopic sensors and compass, gps, plus also full-time internet connection. For Android, there’s for instance Tupalo, which lets you discover interesting restaurants, bars and nightclubs in a city, or Tagwhat, which uses social networking features to tag places. For iOS, there was recently Falcon Gunner, a cool game which superimposes star wars imagery in the real world.

In next week’s meetup, there will be in introduction to LAYAR, such as how to create your first layer, either adding points or 2D elements. There will be next a discussion about Augmented Reality’s present potential as well as a braintstorming on what lies ahead for its future. The event should be especially interesting for those in video games, and also those already in mobile apps development.
