Montreal Tech Watch

startupifier

Startupifier, a group dedicated to promote entrepreneurship, based on strong connections with students and local universities, is organizing next month a bootcamp, with teams racing to build a startup in one weekend. It’s similar in spirit to Startup Weekend, an event created about 4 years ago by Andrew Hyde (who incidentally also thought and organized the first Startup Drinks events)

Startup Weekends are known for their intensity, since you are challenged to build a working product (including business plan, a working product, a marketing plan etc.) in 2/3 days, instead of the usual 6 months or so. Everyone is mobilized to give their bests, work as fast as possible, trying to dodge barriers, while the clock is ticking away. Having other teams with the same goals raise the intensity.

I recommend the event for anyone, especially if you’re contemplating launching a technology company. You get to experience everything in a few days, and you will know then if this is something you love and can endure, or if you’re better off in another field. As an aside, the event is also a excellent opportunity to know people, when they are at their best and when they are challenged… I only wish there are more events like this in Montréal.
