Montreal Tech Watch

Tap In Tuesday @ Café Des Éclusieurs

We’re putting up a 2nd tech entrepreneur mentoring event next tuesday Sep 14th, at Café République, 1200 Rue Peel. This edition’s featured mentor is James Duncan, the technology head behind ReasonablySmart. He teamed up with Bryan Bogensberger, the business dev / ceo. ReasonablySmart was bootstrapped, revealing an innovative cloud technology. It then got acquired by Joyent, at an early stage. Come at this event if you’re a technology head like James Duncan and looking to see how you can team up with a business person, or if you are looking to see how you can get your startup acquired.

For those who missed the first event, the objective is to get an entrepreneur who’ve been through the different startup stages and who can share his experiences with new aspiring entrepreneurs, and (ideally), inspire them also to take the plunge. At the latest event, we had Sébastien Provencher from Praized who took the whole evening to tell and explain how Praized originated.

The audience at those audiences are limited in numbers, with nowhere near what you can experience at an event like Montréal startupdrinks. This is intentional though. It’s essential that everyone gets an opportunity to ask his/her questions and maybe have an 1 one1 session at the end. At the last event, Sébastien shared about their successes but also setbacks, and also relevant advice to take. So this isn’t a networking event where you get to collect business cards, but more like a workshop event. Not yet a hands-on workship with lessons to work on, but who knows… maybe we will get there one day.

If you wish to attend, Gabriel has all the details at the official website, for (compulsory) registration for instance.

Startups solve problems. So if you find a problem there’s probably a startup idea lying somewhere nearby. A Montreal developer Kenji Williams developed an app called twtspire.com that scours twitter and automatically detects tweets from people that wonder why a solution doesn’t exist for a specific problem they’re having.
