Joyent, a cloud computing provider, acquired Reasonably Smart Platform last week.

If you have been to local startup events or if you’ve been on identi.ca/twitter, you’ve surely bumped into Bryan Bogensberger and James Duncan, the two co-founders of the RSP platform, who were looking for funding and partners, after setting up an “alpha” website.

Here was a write-up and review of the early RSP service.

I have to say the “acquisition” was unexpected, RSP wasn’t a threat to Joyent, with RSP having low to zero traction. I remember Bryan announcing on identi.ca that they’ve had their first commercial use of the platform, but haven’t seen the link. Unfortunately, I haven’t met either any programmer who developped for the platform. You could say that the technology stack was too obscure and not presented well enough to convince VCs & the developer community; or maybe because it was too early for the time.

Nevertheless, the RSP founders are joining Joyent’s executive teams, which is after all a great exit for Bryan & James in these troubled times.

Here are example of tweets from [...]

Very cool. Congratulations to Bryan and James! I’m sure I’ll see you guys around before you (if you do) move to sunny California. Hey, Montreal is better ;) Good luck with everything!

Cool, I’ve never even heard of RSP but it looks interesting. Always neat to see Git being used more and more as well.

All I can say is good luck to Joyent. Bogensburger has a track record of bankrupting companies and jilting investors and creditors.
