October 13th, 2008 · by Heri · hacking

mafiaboy

PCWorld tells a fascinating story of Michael Calce, a.k.a mafiaboy, who single-handedly pirated US university networks, the Yahoo portal and many other top websites such as eBay, E*TRADE and Dell, when he was only 15 years old. He used the pirated university computers to launch a coordinated DDOS attacks on Yahoo!, which was the biggest web company at that time.

mafiaboy was arrested two and half a months later by the RCMP, with the help of the FBI, after electronic surveillance.

PCWorld’s story coincides with the launch of the mafiaboy book, written by both Michael Calce and Craig Silverman, famous journalist and editor. Craig writes that Michael has never spoken publicly about his acts and the story, and the Michael Calce seeks now redemption from his hacker days.
