Upcoming: StartupEmpire, Canada’s startup conference, Nov 13th, 14th (0)

The media moguls at StartupNorth are organizing Canada’s first startup conference, due in 5 weeks. The event is boldly named StartupEmpire, and all technology/web entrepreneurs country-wide are invited to come over for the 2-day event.
One of my first exchanges with Jevon MacDonald, one of the co-founder of the Canadian startup blog StartupNorth.ca, was his plans and excitement to organize a canadian startup conference. That was 1 year ago, and since then, we’ve seen him and other startup “ambassadors” such as David Crow and Jonas Brandon going and organizing different events such as StartupCamps or DemoCamps. David Crow is especially renowned for having instigated the DemoCamp events in Toronto, which has been emulated successfully in many other cities in the world.
Contrary to other conferences such as Red Herring Canada or the Banff Venture Forum, StartupEmpire is presented as “made by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs”. This means there should be less “pitches”, more hands-on discussions, and certainly more intense and practical interactions between attendees. The event is also presented as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn together. I haven’t seen mentions of a Startup School somewhere, but the event’s schedule looks certainly like it. Also scheduled is a line-up of successful entrepreneurs and startup leaders as speakers.
If there’s a startup conference you want to go to this year, then StartupEmpire looks like it’s the one.
