Thanks everyone for the feedback on the Montreal Tech Entrepreneur Breakast! The post was up initially to “gauge interest” for these breakfasts, and I think the comments went beyond expectations, proving that there’s strong interest for meetups and meeting entrepreneurs. Even if there were a few diverging comments, most wanted an informal event, that would be scheduled early and where they could exchange in detail with other attendees. And also still have a vibe different than those found in the usual 5 à 7 business networking events. We’ve got now a wiki for those who want to continue contributing ideas.
Ben Yoskovitz has published the event for tomorrow on facebook. It’s 8am to 10am (instead of 9am to 11am), although as everyone knows, you can come up and leave at any time.
If you plan to come tomorrow, you need to sign up there so that others can have a minimal idea of who will be there.
The place is always Bistro Etc, 1291 Avenue Mont-Royal. It’s about 5-10 minutes from the Mont-Royal metro station. Original plan was to choose a new place, somewhere between the plateau and downtown, but we couldn’t find one in time. Still, Tanya is making a list of potential places for next month. There’s also one at Praized (add the “mteb” tag to places)
Hope to see everyone there tomorrow! As everyone knows, everyone’s welcomed and it’s pretty much informal. In the past, we’ve had bloggers, video-bloggers, technology consultants and developers, marketing specialists, tech entrepreneurs, reporters, technology lawyers, angel investors (and a few VCs) etc.
Again, special thanks to Ben, who even if he’s running Standoutjobs, still finds the time to contribute to the community. He’s a great model for everyone.

Basically I see from feedback to your last post about this that there is interest for a more central location, and interest for non-business hours time frame. MTEB and StartupDrinks are cool, but they’re both at odd hours (mid morning when people are working, or late at night). I think that people might like being able to choose whether they are tired the next morning and avoid losing business hours, so having a OpenCoffee type event at a pub downtown seems perfectly reasonable.
Also, this is a little less unstructured and casual than the other events- I have reserved a section of Hurleys for our use, and I was hoping to have people present 10 minute elevator pitches and do some Q&A.
That said, I’m new to this community, and I really don’t know anyone that well yet. If you really think this is crowding events too close together, I’ll postpone.
Heri August 11, 2008
It’s just that I think the MTEB and OpenCoffees are very similar in nature. StartupDrinks has different objectives, also Felipe who wants to do the new tech meetup is also very different in principle.
You need to think about fragmentation and cannibalization of audience. What I think is that it’s better to have 30 people at a breakfast than have 10 people at the breakfast then 10 other people at OpenCoffee.
Then again, it’s just my personal opinion. And also, you might be right. We’ll see for the first one if people come up. I mean, I’ve been encouraging people to meetup and do things, so I this is great in a way.

To be honest, I can’t believe I’m the only person who has trouble meeting people during business hours- maybe OpenCoffee will get people out who normally can’t make it! Also, I hope that a couple of weeks between the events (the 12th to the 25th) is enough time for people to start missing each other ;)
Heri August 11, 2008
We did announce it from 5pm previously but people came up late so that’s why it’s now 6.
Basil August 11, 2008
I’ll put OpenCoffee on hold for now. Thanks for your patience ;)

I was browsing through the other events and I think things are looking pretty cool… It looks like we have a lot of good options!
You all have fun tomorrow and I’ll see you on the September breakfast.

What an Excellent Montreal Tech Breakfast this
morning.
There must of been at least 30 people or more.
I’ve been attending the Tech breakfast for sometime and today it was very successful for me.
I was looking to increase my network contact to include a Source Agent for China, and today I found one.
The Montreal Tech Breakfast really works, you can meet people that will truely help your business.
Regards Robert
