Montreal Tech Watch

[service note]

By Heri Aug 9th 2008 in Design

The MontrealTechWatch server has been moved to slicehost, for reliability, and also for architecturing reasons.

I missed some of the action which might have happenned here, but there should be a follow-up soon; plus a few user comments might have been lost in the transfer process. Thanks for keeping up.

What is your experience with slicehost?

  • Heri August 23, 2008

    derek,
    good things:
pricing. it’s very easy to scale vertically. knowledgable support.

    bad things:
they are merciless on server and RAM utilization for your server. the previous VPS I had allowed users to use reamining RAM on the server, if there’s any avalaible.

    unexpected:
they have x64 servers. i’ve never dealt with those. trouble compiling different libraries.

Did you kill the Atom feed too around mid-august? I just realized that I wasn’t getting your RSS feeds anymore :( I re-subscribed using your FeedBurner link.

  • Heri September 02, 2008

Denis, since you mention it, yes.

In fact, the Atom feed was just an Apache redirect to the feedburner feed.

i could do it again i guess, but now using nginx and have more important matters to focus on today :(
