Bill, buyouts perform 33% better than the TSX in Canada.

As for the 2nd point (successful exits), there is no database of that yet. Got a few names in mind... will take some time to do one.

And for the 3rd point, well I don't think it's possible. Building a successful startup is one of the most callenging tasks out there; as they are tackling new problems and exploring new spaces that no other company have done before, and as such it's impossible to make a list of things "what not to do"

don't focus on the "Mediascrape VS Techcrunch" case. It's a temporary misstep, and it's not definetely the end of the world for Mediascrape (although they won't stop teasing Mediascrape in the future).

What we need now, is work hard and have a success from here. And as I said, someone involved in a startup need to be network actively, look for the best talent, get to know what's the best practices in his space, go to tech events etc.

Can you post a report of private equity vs. TSX returns? Can you also post a list of Montreal-based business success stories (year 2001-2008 exits for example)? I would be interested to read "what not to do" based on Silicon Valley start-up dreadful decisions(free speech, right). They are ridiculing Montreal start-ups. And Montreal start-ups can learn from California-based start-up horrendous mistakes, right?
