Montreal Tech Watch

Standoutjobs has announced they received a 2 million $ funding from iNovia Capital, which does seed and early stage venture capital investments. This is a significant investment and speaks in itself about Standoutjobs’s team’s skills and continuous efforts. This is also the first major move from iNovia that I know of, after they relaunched from the previous MSBi name.

They also launched today, and received coverage on every main technology blog, namely Techcrunch, VentureBeat, Mashable, GigaOm and CenterNetworks. So far, they received very positive reviews about the new “RECEPTION” product.

These announcements mean they now have significant time, money and media attention ahead of them to promote and commercialize their product. I know the startup’s founders were spending a lot of efforts looking for investors; as for now, they can now focus on the product itself.

I joked once with Fred Ngo how they were going to promote their service, to which he replied Ben Yoskovitz is going to put all his marketing weight into it.

And boy did he deliver. Today is certainly Standoutjobs’ day.

Congrats to iNovia and Standoutjobs!

Heri — was that a “fat” joke. I know I’ve put on a couple pounds with all the stress…

Today is a great day for us. Launching has been crazy. Crazier than expected, but we’re enjoying every minute of it.

  • Heri January 28, 2008

    hey ben,

no — we were referring to instigatorblog and how you managed to get posts on digg’s homepage everytime.

congrats on the launch again. i think you have done a fantastic job

  • Ben Yoskovitz January 28, 2008

Ah…I see. Well, that hasn’t happened in awhile for Instigator Blog, but that’s OK. Bigger fish to fry.

    Congrats for the launch/coverage.
The level is raising in Montreal !
I am proud to be part of this community.
I will push myself harder to make my own projects a success as well.

  • Alistair January 28, 2008

Yeah, great job getting visibility. The real test is the six-second ADD presentation. At least you didn’t fall prey to the everyone-has-the-same-logo perils.
It’s gonna be a great show.

Hi Heri, thanks for the article.

Both Ben, Fred and the entire Standout Jobs team are doing an amazing job in the development & marketing.

We already have a number of customers signing up and launching Reception sites without our intervention.

It’s a great day for the team and I’m just happy to be along for the ride :)

    Hi Austin

Great to hear about the customers. I saw standout got its first (volunteer) client hours after the launch last monday.

This is great news, standout is for now the major web startup to launch and should inspire other entrepreneurs.

    Enjoy your stay at DEMO!

    Hi everybody!
I have a question : does anybody here knows who took care of their overall web design? ( UX ).

Congrats to Standoutjobs..I’m just a bit curious about the pre/post-money valuation they agreed on?

    Anyway , cheers to everyone!

  • Heri February 03, 2008

Franck, for the design, they have Francis Wu in the team. for the UX, i am not sure.

the valuation was not public and even if i had the info, i am not sure i would disclose it here

  • Franck February 03, 2008

    Thanks for the reply Heri..
Regarding the valuation ,as I said it was just by curiosity..as you may know, sometimes it is possible to find well-known startup valuations on the net ( flixster , facebook , tumblr etc..)

  • Ben Yoskovitz February 04, 2008

Franck — our design has gone through a few people. Originally we had some mockups done by a company in Toronto called Arktyp (http://www.arktyp.ca) which I would highly recommend.

Francis Wu came on board after and was instrumental in fine tuning the design. He also worked extensively on the Career Site design and implementation.

We had other help with the production of the site itself, because Francis was busy with the core application.

As for the details of the financing, we won’t release those publicly.

    Thanks!

  • Franck February 04, 2008

Thanks Ben. We badly needed to find a design co.
