Montreal Tech Watch

Startupcampv3

StartupCampMontréal is scheduled next wednesday 23rd at la SAT, from 6 to 10pm. 5 startups were selected from the votes of 27 gurus to present, and in no particular order, they are:

- tungle does easy appointement scheduling by using p2p technology and plugins for personal calendaring software like outlook,
- cozimo allows designers and creatives to collaborate in real-time. Users can for instance annotate pictures, videos, PDFs,
- streametrics is a new solution that allows video publisers to get metrics and marketing data about published videos,
- yourteledoctor is a brand-new telemedecine startup that would allow virtual consultations between existing doctors and their patients,
- igotcha media does interactive digital signage, allowing for instance retailers display their products to window-shoppers in an interactive fashion.

Congratulations to each of them!

This makes it an exciting agenda, as we will have startups on different stages and in different markets. Yourteledoctor is in pre-launch; while startups like tungle and igotcha media are currently working into commercializing their respective products. yourteledoctor, cozimo, tungle are consumer products while streametrics and igotcha is targeted at businesses. Each team will have the opportunity to present for 10 minutes, and there will be afterwards 5 minutes for open questions.

Other listed startups on the wiki will also have the opportunity to demo informally their products after the 5 presenting companies.

We also now have the final list of sponsors, which are BCF, BDC, Embrase, SAT, and Microsoft. The word is that we will have a raffle, with Microsoft giving a xbox360.

I hope to meet you there. StartupCamps are similar to DemoCamps, the difference is that it’s targeted at entrepreneurs and startups, with an audience of entrepreneurs, gurus and business experts and investors.

A Montreal developer Kenji Williams developed an app called twtspire.com that scours twitter and automatically detects tweets from people that wonder why a solution doesn’t exist for a specific problem they’re having. Here are example of tweets from [...]

Very cool! Best of luck to all the companies – from what I hear about the Toronto event this is definitely worthwhile.

I just realized that Cozimo is also presenting at Standout Jobs. Two Montreal-based companies … that’s great! (Although they have a Berkeley address too, so not sure which location is home base…)

    Hi Ben,

You mean cozimo is presenting to DEMO (not standoutjobs)

also the funny thing is when i checked 2 weeks ago, they didn’t have a montreal address, and now they have. this is very curious, hope we will have more info at startupcamp

  • Ben Yoskovitz January 16, 2008

Heri – right *laugh* Cozimo is presenting at DEMO. If they are truly based in Montreal that’s great – having two companies going will be fun.

  • Juan January 17, 2008

Ben, Heri — Yes, Cozimo is based in Montreal (but one of our partners is in Berkeley).
You can see us at cafés around The Plateau. We also work with designers in Toronto, but the core team and the actual development is done here in Montreal. And we love it.

Keep up the good (standout)job! Congratulations on your DEMO 08 launch, and best of lucks with it!
    :-)
