I am about to publish a guide about startupping in Montreal/Québec, which would be a post making the list of all possible resources here in Montréal and in Québec for entrepreneurs who want to start a technology startup.
This list would have the list of:
- existing designers in Montréal who can help startups, or design companies who specialize in user interfaces,
- developers or development shops,
- consultants who provide coaching, business advice to startups
- SEO and marketing experts,
- list of grants, subsidies, loans avalaible from the provincial and federal governement,
- lawyers who specialize in technology,
- investors, VCs, angels who are active in technology,
- blogs, and sources of information that might be helpful,
- organizations, either private or parapublic, which can help technology startups
- and the list of events such as democamps, blitzweekend, barcamps, montreal on rails, etc.
I already have an existing list, but I am sure there are readers who know better. If you know about an important resource for existing and future entrepreneurs, if you provide services to technology startups, please leave a comment.
Thanks!

The one thing technology startups need the most and have the most difficulty in managing, is a marketing strategies.
I help technology startups build a good marketing statement through the use of logo branded unique gadgets to low priced branded wearables.
I use PayPal, very secure, easy to use, etc.

I don’t agree with the complete statement made by Robert, but I think this sentence is the root of a great blog post Heri…

It’s a great idea. Although this is not a montreal resource, I would like to provide you with two companies that start-ups can utilize in establishing their companies – both are freelance market places http://www.elance.com http://www.guru.com
good luck!

thanks for all the comments.
btw, even if it’s obivous and if i already know you, it makes sense to include your name (just in case)
@sylvain and robert: everyone has their point of view, but i would say a marketing strategy is not where you start. it’s an essential part of the plan though

I’m a serial operator. On my 4th venture-backed startup now. Sold the last one for > 10x the capital invested in it. I am always looking to hear about new startups and will help out with expertise and contacts whenever I can. I am highly interested in building a thriving, successful startup community in Montreal.

Yet again a great initiative. Other than a handful of Montreal based Early Stage VC firms such as iNovia Capital (www.inoviacapital.com), ID Capital (www.idcapital.ca), Brightspark (www.brightspark.com) and Montreal Startups; I thinks its good to know about the 4 société de valorisation were created in partnership with Quebec’s leading universities (MSBiV, Univalor, Sovar & Valeo). As an example MSBiV basically invest a few hundred thousand dollars in promising projects ready for commercialization based on IP coming out of McGill University, Université de sherbrooke and Bishop’s University – so the entrepreneur can come from anywhere but the IP must come from a university or one of its affiliated research institutions.
Best, Chris
