Montreal Tech Watch

google montreal

There was previously a small “controversy” on an earlier post if whether Google had offices in Montréal or not. I just had confirmation from Denis Canuel who went downtown and their address is 24th floor, suite 2449, 1000 de la Gauchetiere.

Now, it seems I wasn’t wrong either. The 24th floor of the building is in fact a virtual office area, in which multinational corporations can rent blocks of space and time, or for early stage companies who want an address to impressreceive their business partners.

In this case, Denis Canuel saw they were shared with Yahoo! and other companies, who worked in the same space with Google developers.

Thanks Denis!

Startups solve problems. So if you find a problem there’s probably a startup idea lying somewhere nearby. A Montreal developer Kenji Williams developed an app called twtspire.com that scours twitter and automatically detects tweets from people that wonder why a solution doesn’t exist for a specific problem they’re having. Here are example of tweets from [...]

I’m wondering what they are doing in Montreal. According to their job position it’s like software development for Windows.

Interesting that, with all of the office space in Montreal, both Yahoo! and Google chose to share office space in the same building, on the same floor! I wonder what the employees talk about to each other when they share the elevator to go down to lunch!

fred brunel and Eric: unfortunately, it’s impossible to know what they are working on. you can’t go in without an appointement, the reception is tight-lipped about what each company is doing, and there is no email or phone number avalaible to get in touch someone.

  • Fred Brunel September 19, 2007

    Weird.

  • Mat September 19, 2007

No, it’s not impossible to know what they’re working on.

They’re working on Google Desktop. I’ve said it here before.

Same sources that provided me with the address.

    Google Montreal & yahoo! Montreal
