A conference on theory and practice of markup languages is scheduled this week in Montreal. Topics include:
- the semantic web,
- transformation (ie XSLT)
- markup processing
- modeling and design…
Of course, it might be too late to plan attending the conference; this is a “traditional” conference, with tickets starting from $950 and all the usual heavyweight logistics. Still, I found the description interesting:
Extreme typically has an unusually high concentration of markup theorists, computer scientists, linguists, taxonomists, publishers, lexicographers, typographers, software developers, librarians, and other people you want to spend time with – also anarchists, curmudgeons, and deep thinkers – and a lower than average concentration of managers in need of a clue.
The idea of advertising a conference by mentionning anarchists and “curmudgeons” is a novelty to me. And the “lower than average concentration of managers” is also funny. Are managers evil for XML practicionners?
