Montreal Tech Watch

twitter calendar

Fred Brunel has launched this weekend twittercal, an app that lets you create events in your Google Calendar with twitter. For instance, a “tweet” like this:

d gcal Montreal Tech Entrepreneur Breakfast on Tuesday, 14th of august at 9am

would add the event at the MTW calendar. I wrote “would” because there is some latency and i am still waiting for it to appear on gCal.

Still, the application is cool and innovative. It introduces the idea of using the web via a command line instead of a graphical user interface. This is also a validation of nanoformats. We could imagine another startup focusing on task management with twitter or integrating locations in twitter, with the same pattern, turning then twitter as a platform. Yes, you probably heard the same story 2 months ago with facebook.

I have met twice Fred Brunel at Tech Entrepreneur Breakfast and this is very impressive. It seems to me he created a microstartup overnight. I find the choice of technology (Ruby on Rails on the front-end, java for the bot) smart and twittercal’s design is profesionnal. This is great and I am impatient to look at what Fred will be doing next.

Fred: Very nice work. Very similar also to our own approach of letting users interact with the service by sending commands over the IM channel.

Heri: TwitterVision is doing the same thing with frequently visited location as well on Twitter. Check it out at: http://www.twittervision.com
