Startups solve problems. So if you find a problem there’s probably a startup idea lying somewhere nearby. A Montreal developer Kenji Williams developed an app called twtspire.com that scours twitter and automatically detects tweets from people that wonder why a solution doesn’t exist for a specific problem they’re having. Let’s make it clear. One key reason why Standoutjobs got $1.5 million is because Austin Hill not only invested in it but is also involved. Without his backing or involvement I doubt that Garage ventures or any other VC would have given Fred and Ben $1.5million based on them alone. They are simply not experienced enough in terms of exectuive management…yet. This is actually great news for other entrepreneurs, since most tend to think they require 10 years of exectuive level management experience before a VC will look at them. This is obviously not the case. Good luck to Standoutjobs, it is very exciting for them, no doubt, and we all look forward to their success.

    hi shadowman (?)

of course, that’s obvious. but i also doubt that GarageCanada would have invested if Fred Ngo or Ben wasn’t in the team.

by the way, look at the most succesful internet companies out there. google, yahoo, youtube. none of the founders had any executive experience. i think you have all it wrong. cornering the service and getting the customer value right is the most important. management, finance, legal, promotion… all of those are secondary.
