silanis

Silanis, a Montreal company, is the world’s largest and most experienced provider of digital signature solutions. The company has a customer base of 1100 companies and organisations who want to eliminate paper-based procedures, introduce reliable security measures, and comply with regulations and laws.

Yesterday, they announced they were selected as the main provider for the US’s Department of Defense new financial system, for accounting, budgeting, and analysis and decisions support. The solution provided by Silanis will allow the DoD to eliminate paper forms and speed up processes. Users can sign documents with their personal digital certificate, smart cards, or Silanis’s ePersona ID.

Now, did the US DoD become suddenly environment aware? I don’t think so. The US Military is the largest energy and oil consumer in the world, and I don’t think they care much about paper consumption. They clearly want the additional security measures (e-signature, e-certification, “e-vaulting”), which, by the way, will add more bureaucracy in the system instead of the speed and responsiveness they advertised in the first place.
