Jerome Plantevin, tech blogger from lesaffaires.com, writes (in french) about the upcoming law in France that would require website publishers to save visitors data for 1 year. He says that bloggers, ISPs, webmasters will now want to transfer their businesses to Quebec, because the law would demand heavy technology investments, far too cumbersome for many businesses. This is interesting, although there are already plans to censor ISPs in Canada.
This, with Google’s recent program to track and save every click and action you make on the Internet, leads me to call this week Big Brother Week.

Google Web History is entirely optional.
Personally, I don’t mind having it turned on, as I’m not engaged in any activities that are politically (or otherwise) sensitive. If I were, I would certainly employ measures to protect myself (i.e. anonymize my surfing) which is still, and I would argue WILL ALWAYS BE, possible — as there is a market demand for it.

thanks for the comment. yes. but i have just realized that they still keep a lot of data (email, docs, spreadsheets, feeds)
and i d never install google web history.
about anonymizers, if citizens dont oppose the laws and bills, i am sure they will be outlawed one day. In the US for instance, the president could impose it any day for “security” reasons.
