Mechtronix won yesterday the Mercuriades competition, a “presitigious” award given by the Quebec Federation of Chambers of Commerce. The company makes flight simulators targeted at small airlines, contrary to CAE, another Montreal company who makes full-flight simulators.

Mechtronix wouldn’t normally be mentionned in MTW, but I found their business model, innovation focus, and entrepreneurship very interesting:

  1. They are a small company and yet managed to boost their sales, with 80% of revenues coming outside of Canada, thanks to strategic partnerships and alliances.
  2. Flight simulators is a highly demanding high-tech product, where you need a full staff of researchers in physics, 3D, graphics, and mechanics.
  3. They manage to beat CAE, a company with huge ressources, on their own turf.

Congrats to Mechtronix then.
